![]() This technique is not as accurate as the ink stripe, but it is better then not checking it at all, or to be used when striping is not possible. Stop the machine, let the rollers sit idle for 5 seconds, and inch or reverse the machine slightly to see the stripes. This is accomplished by running the machine with ink on the rollers until it is evenly milled. ![]() Striping oscillator, transfer or distributor rollers is a little more difficult, but just as important. Adjust the rollers and recheck if necessary. This will leave a stripe for each form roller. Place the rollers in contact with the plate and then remove them. Position the cylinder gap toward the delivery. Striping ink form rollers to the plate is easily accomplished. Stripe setting of the form rollers to the oscillator roller should be slightly heavier than stripe setting of form rollers to the plate. Worn or flared roller ends will have a thinner or wider strip on the ends than the center of the roller.ī. It is important to make sure the ends of the rollers are not flared or worn. Stripes should be of equal width from one edge of the roller to the other edge. The exact stripe dimensions should be provided by the press manufacturer. Ink rollers on medium sized offset presses normally have a stripe or bead of 1/8 to 3/16 of one inch (0.3175 – 0.04763mm). ![]() Striping rollers consist of transferring ink between rollers and checking the stripe or transfer bead that appears after the roller rests against the other roller for 5 seconds or more. This technique is the best and most accurate. The three most popular adjustment methods are listed below in order of effectiveness: If we agree that these rollers should be periodically adjusted, the next big question is how? There are probably as many methods as there are operators. Resetting, maintaining and periodically recovering ink and dampening rollers can usually allow trouble free operation. Lets face it, these artists sometimes create designs that are eye catching and beautiful in concept, but quite often very difficult or impossible to print easily or economically. Printing presses on the other hand are expected to print anything that an advertising artist could possibly imagine. ![]() High quality is usually not expected from duplicators. Duplicator settings may be less critical due to the fact that ink rollers are usually mostly spring loaded or gravity held rollers. Roller settings are also a very important adjustment on all printing presses and duplicators. ![]()
